Decision-making is poorly organisedThe CEO and the C-suite hold the right responsibilities

Where decisions are made Animated diagram. The filled red dots are the decisions that belong to the COO; the grey rings, those that stay with the CEO. Without a COO, the red ones route up to the CEO or pile up with the CFO, the CTO, the CRO and the CLO. With a COO, they go to the COO, the queues empty, and only the grey rings reach the CEO. Red: decisions that belong to the COO.Grey: those that stay with the CEO.

If your company shows these symptoms and is slowing down

For scale-up CEOs and their C-suite

As the company grows, responsibilities blur, decisions stop being made the way they used to be, and processes have not kept up with its growth.

  • Too many decisions route up to the CEO

Hires, spend, priorities, releases: everything waits on your sign-off. You run short of time for the work only you can do: strategy, investor relations, the next raise.

  • A new opportunity the teams cannot absorb

You are opening a subsidiary, integrating an acquisition, entering a new market or launching a new product, and the current team is already swamped by the day-to-day.

  • Unclear roles, meeting sprawl, gaps nobody owns

Your org chart looks clean, but in practice 2 people think they own the same thing, 3 topics belong to no one, and the same initiative slips twice. The calendar fills with meetings that only share information and decide nothing.

  • You are hiring and shipping faster than the company can handle

You have doubled your headcount, but half the team is new and information no longer reaches the right people. Work gets duplicated or dropped, and you spend the day pointing people at each other.

Cyril Forté, founder

I designed and then built The Sandbox DAO from scratch, an autonomous organisation with a $7.5M operating budget over 2 years: its legal entity, its treasury, its accounts, its first hires, from design through to its orderly wind-down. Before that, I spent 15 years in project leadership and product management at HSBC Private Bank and Allianz Partners, in Monaco, Geneva, London and then Paris, finishing as Global Head of Digital Products.

We bring in operators when a mandate needs more resources.
